The Institute of Regional Studies Peshawar recently conducted a comprehensive survey in preparation for the upcoming 2024 elections. The survey data was systematically gathered within the specified timeframe, commencing on January 22, 2024, and concluding on February 3, 2024. The survey aimed to gauge public opinions and sentiments regarding the previous 2018 elections, voter intentions for 2024, and satisfaction levels with the performance of the National Assembly Members (MNA) and MPA.

Survey Overview:

The survey encompassed responses from a total of 1700 participants, providing a diverse representation of public sentiments.

  1. Participation in 2018 Elections:

  • 28% of respondents indicated that they did not casted their votes in the 2018 elections.
  • 71% of participants expressed having participated in the voting process during the 2018 elections.
  1. Voter Intentions for 2024:

When asked about their intentions for the upcoming 2024 elections, 5% of respondents stated that they were not interested in participating.

  • 81% of participants expressed their keen interest in casting their votes in the 2024 elections.
  • 12% of respondents remained uncertain about their participation.
  1. Five-Year satisfaction and performance of National Assembly MNAS:

A significant portion of the survey focused on assessing the five-year satisfaction and performance levels of the public with their National Assembly MNA.

  • 24% of respondents were uncertain about their satisfaction levels.
  • 37% of participants expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of their National Assembly MNA.
  • 38% of the public conveyed satisfaction with the National Assembly MNA.
  1. Five-Year satisfaction and performance of Provincial Assembly MPAS:

The survey delved into the assessment of the five-year performance of the Provincial Assembly MPA.

  • 27% of respondents were neutral, neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
  • 30% of participants expressed dissatisfaction with the five-year performance.
  • 42% of the public conveyed satisfaction with the five-year performance of their Provincial Assembly MPA.
  1. Voting Preferences for Election 2024:

The survey included a question to understand the basis on which respondents would like to vote in the upcoming Election 2024.

  • Honesty: 63.18%
  • Development Work: 43.7%
  • Social Welfare: 34.37%
  • Party Leadership: 25.86%
  • Party Affiliation: 25.53%
  • Party Manifesto: 24.06%
  • Employment Provision: 15.38%
  • Other: 19.8%
  1. Biggest Problem in their Area:

As an integral component of our Election Survey 2024, respondents were asked to identify the most significant challenges prevalent in their respective areas. The results provide a proper understanding of the localized issues that impact communities. The responses are as follows:

  • Unemployment/Price hike: 57.12%
  • Electricity Load Shedding: 53.68%
  • Gas Load Shedding: 52.37%
  • Bad Roads: 31.42%
  • Dirt and Drainage: 28.31%
  • Unrest/lawlessness: 22.59%
  • Absence of proper Health Facilities: 21.28%
  • Lack of Education facilities: 15.55%
  • Non-Availability of Clean Water: 10.97%
  • Other: 12.77%

The survey reveals that unemployment, high prices of the basic commodities, electricity load shedding, and gas load shedding are the most prevalent concerns among respondents. These findings underscore the urgent need for policy interventions to alleviate economic pressures and ensure the provision of essential utilities. The significant percentage of respondents highlighting issues such as bad roads, dirt and drainage, unrest, and the absence of health facilities further emphasizes the multifaceted nature of challenges faced by communities.

In addressing the identified problems, policymakers and candidates can gain a deeper understanding of the specific needs and priorities of their constituencies.
